Why Travelers Enjoy This Tour
This tour is an excellent choice for travelers seeking an authentic Andean hiking experience in a short amount of time. The route to Huchuy Qosqo combines breathtaking mountain scenery, rural landscapes, and panoramic views of the Sacred Valley without requiring a long or physically demanding trek.
One of the greatest highlights of this adventure is its perfect balance of nature, culture, and history. In just two days, you'll hike scenic mountain trails, pass through traditional Andean communities, enjoy spectacular viewpoints, and explore the fascinating Huchuy Qosqo Archaeological Site. It's an ideal alternative for travelers who want a more authentic experience beyond the typical tourist routes while making the most of their time in Cusco.
Huchuy Qosqo remains one of the Sacred Valley's hidden treasures. With far fewer visitors than many of Peru's famous attractions, the site offers a peaceful atmosphere, breathtaking views over the valley, and a unique opportunity to connect with the history of the Inca civilization and the traditions of the Andean highlands.
What Makes This Experience Special
What makes the 2-Day Huchuy Qosqo Trek truly special is its ability to deliver a complete Andean adventure in a short amount of time. This carefully designed route combines scenic hiking, rich Inca history, breathtaking landscapes, and authentic cultural experiences, making it an excellent choice for travelers seeking more than a typical day tour.
Along the trail, you'll pass through high mountain landscapes, crystal-clear lagoons, fertile farmlands, traditional footpaths, and small Andean villages where local communities continue to preserve centuries-old customs and traditions. The constantly changing scenery makes every stage of the hike both rewarding and memorable.
The highlight of the journey is your arrival at Huchuy Qosqo, meaning "Little Cusco." Perched high above the Sacred Valley, this remarkable Inca archaeological site features impressive stone structures, agricultural terraces, ceremonial areas, and panoramic views that stretch across the valley below. Its peaceful atmosphere and limited number of visitors make it a perfect destination for travelers seeking history, tranquility, and an authentic connection with the legacy of the Inca civilization.
Best Time to Travel
The best time to hike the Huchuy Qosqo Trek is from April through October, during the dry season in the Peruvian Andes. These months typically offer sunny days, clear skies, and the best trail conditions, allowing you to enjoy spectacular views of the Sacred Valley, surrounding mountains, and the Huchuy Qosqo Archaeological Site.
From November through March, the rainy season brings more frequent showers, and some sections of the trail may become muddy or slippery. However, this is also when the Andean landscapes are at their greenest, creating beautiful scenery. If you plan to travel during these months, we recommend bringing a waterproof jacket or rain poncho and appropriate hiking footwear.
Weather conditions can vary throughout the trek. Higher elevations are often cold, especially during the early morning and evening, while the Sacred Valley generally enjoys a milder climate. Dressing in layers is the best way to stay comfortable as temperatures change during the day.
Who This Tour Is For
This tour is perfect for travelers seeking a short, authentic, and culturally rich hiking experience near Cusco. It's an excellent choice for those who enjoy walking through spectacular mountain scenery, exploring lesser-known Inca archaeological sites, and discovering peaceful trails away from the crowds.
The Huchuy Qosqo Trek is also an ideal acclimatization hike before visiting Machu Picchu or taking on more challenging multi-day treks. The gradual ascent allows your body to adjust to the altitude while you experience the natural beauty, history, and traditions of the Peruvian Andes.
The trek is considered moderate and does not require previous trekking experience or technical hiking skills. However, a reasonable level of physical fitness is recommended, as you'll spend several hours walking on mountain trails with moderate elevation changes. For the best experience, we recommend arriving in Cusco at least one or two days before your tour to acclimatize properly.
